Chicago Uptown Ministry
Chicago Uptown Ministry, now a program of Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois created a special niche for itself, in a community well known for its large homeless population, as a faith based safe haven that facilitated and supported the passage of individuals from the fringes of society into the mainstream.
Located at 4720 North Sheridan Road, Chicago, IL 60640, Chicago Uptown Ministry provided a wide range of direct services: - Supplemental groceries during Food Pantry
- After school/Summer programs
- English as a Second Language classes
- Worship services
- Parish nursing
- Alcoholics Anonymous meetings
In addition, Chicago Uptown Ministry also became a critical support system that provided counseling, referrals, and advocacy to help clients navigate the greater social service network and other systems like the public schools, legal, immigration, and public health.
