Food distribution services to continue in Calhoun County
- June 19, 2017
Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois recently assisted in helping facilitate a plan to continue food distribution services to community residents in Calhoun County.
Under the new plan, once a month the St. Louis Area Foodbank will provide a semi-truck of non-perishable foods, frozen foods, meats, fresh fruits and vegetables to be distributed to Calhoun County residents. The site will be located in the Hardin city lot behind the Riverdock by the river and gazebo. The coordinating team anticipates a start time in July 2017 so there will not be a huge gap in serving the community. Current LCFS Coordinator Jennifer White will volunteer her time and continue taking the lead in ensuring services to the community. The current volunteer base of approximately 15 individuals will also continue working with Jennifer.
The LCFS Hardin pantry will close June 23rd so the volunteer staff can finalize clean-up efforts and secure the site for closure by June 30th.
This new program was put together through a collaboration of LCFS, Hardin Food Pantry volunteers, the St. Louis Area Foodbank and local community members.
