LCFS has achieved Hague Accreditation through the Council on Accreditation. This grants LCFS Dual Accreditation from COA, which demonstrates the agency’s commitment to the children and families we serve in Illinois and abroad.
Hague Accreditation means that LCFS is in substantial compliance with the Hague Convention Accreditation Standards. LCFS’s Hague Accreditation is valid through November 2020, when LCFS can apply for renewal. The Hague Convention is an international treaty created to ensure that intercountry adoptions are in the best interests of children and to prevent abduction, exploitation, sale or trafficking of children.
With LCFS’ Hague accreditation, Lifelink International Adoption’s direct-placement programs and services will now fall under LCFS’ state license and Hague accreditation. In addition, the name Lifelink International Adoption (an LCFS program) will no longer be used, but we are committed to completing all of the Lifelink cases in progress and will be available as a resource for all past Lifelink adoptive families.
LCFS’ Adoption team provides assistance through every step of the adoption journey for prospective adoptive parents. Hague Accreditation further strengthens LCFS’ Adoption program, but we are currently not accepting any new families into our international direct-placement programs.
LCFS’ Adoption team will continue its work with any Illinois families seeking a domestic or international home study. LCFS caseworkers can assist prospective adoptive parents through the whole process and provide adoption-related education and guidance on openness and contact with birth parents. Post-placement and post-adoption support services are also available. LCFS provides adoption services to single adults and couples residing in Illinois regardless of their race, creed, religious affiliation or sexual orientation. Birth parent services are also available. For additional information visit www.lcfs.org/adoption.
