Issues facing LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning) individuals was the topic of training last month at Southern Thirty Adolescent Center (STAC).
DCFS Statewide LGBTQ Coordinator Jane Kelly and DCFS Consulting Psychologist for LGBTQ Children and Youth Dr. Claudia Mosier presented on a variety of LGBTQ psychoeducational topics, predominantly focusing on trans youth, as LCFS has seen an influx of this population at STAC in the past few months. The training highlighted several topics such as how to properly use gender pronouns within the trans community, DCFS Rainbow Youth Rights and organizational tips on promoting a placement that is safe and free from bullying/harassment.
Both presenters were very engaging and used self-disclosure to provide realistic experiences for the audience to draw from when encountering LGBTQ youth.
